|Alpine area of National Park Gesäuse|
Here in the Ennstal valley there is the youngest national park of Austria. Wild water of Enns river makes its way between the rocks of deep gorges and ravines and creates a typical landscape of bizarre and romantic park nature. There are wild mountain brooks, spectacular hike trails, green pastures and alpine climbing, natural park Steirische Eisenwurzen and the biggest GeoPark in Austria.
There is the oldest climbing cemetery in Austria - Johnsbach which definitely worths visiting. There is also geological exhibition Gstatterboden, research station Weidendom or emerged bogs from the Ice Age Pürgschachen Moor, Ardning.
For fanciers of extreme kinds of sports there are outdoor centres on the river Enns and Salza which offers adventurous kayak and rafts cruises and parks with rope obstacles. Very popular is also water park Wasserspielpark St. Gallen a parkour for archery in Palfau.
Winter sportsmen can go to small and beautiful ski resort Kaiserau. For Cross-country skiers we recommend resort called Hall which is one of the 15 resorts of Styria quality. Other activities include dog train trips, igloo building and cross-country skiing.
Good tip for a trip! Monastery in Admont has the biggest monastic library in the world!
